Waiting for Santa Claus

Christmas eve and the dogs are chilling

It’s been a busy month.  We have been packing and posting parcels from morning until night so now we are all enjoying a little respite.

We finally got the beef back from the butcher and it was absolutely delicious.  No prizes for guessing what we’ll be having for Christmas dinner!

The weather has been pretty dreadful, but not for the usual reasons.  Instead of inches of snow, we have had to endure gale force winds for weeks and unfortunately, lost the roof of the cow shed.  Luckily we no longer have cows to fill it.

Rather than trying to fight our way across the field with bales of hay and buckets of water whilst nearly being blown off our feet, we decided to bring all the sheep indoors where they are easy to manage.  They are all tucked up on a thick straw bed and very happy

We are looking forward to a few well-earned days off over the festive period, although they’ll be no respite the croft chores.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

A brown Christmas

Sadly no white Christmas for us this year

Whilst most of the country has been virtually under water, we too have had our fair share of rain and there have been huge “lakes” in the fields, but thankfully, we have not suffered flooding.

Of course, there is another side effect of all that water – mud.

We have been wading in it for weeks now, although the biggest problem is of course the dogs.

The big ginger Fin isn’t too bad as he doesn’t race around like the other two.  But Daisy, with her fondness for chasing tractors along the hedge line, is usually smothered.  Archie likes to join in the chase, but chases her instead.

It’s got to the point where we long for snow just so that we can have clean dogs.

We’ve developed a sophisticated system for cleaning them after their morning and evening runs, we call it the Dog-o-matic.  Otherwise known as a watering can.

We had the perfect rose fitted on the spout, until someone who will remain nameless, ran over it with his tractor!

Daisy hates the Dog-o-matic and grumbles all the way through her twice daily rinses, Archie puts up with it and conveniently lifts his legs so that you can get to his filthy underbelly, but Fin absolutely loves it and tries to push to the front of the soggy queue.

Here’s hoping we have some decent weather soon so that we can all dry out.

Dreaming of a white shepherd

A merry Christmas from one and all

Christmas is almost upon us and as you can see, Daisy is certainly looking forward to it. As are we all.

We get a daily reminder when we go to feed the sheep each morning – our (German) Shepherds definitely like watching their flock!

Merry Christmas to you all, from the Croft.

Christmas greetings

The snow arrives in the nick of time

Thanks to a short snap of snow just at the end of November, we managed to get some really nice pics of the dogs for our Christmas cards!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

A cosy Christmas

Sitting round the fire waiting for Christmas day

As the end of the year approaches, so the evenings continue to get shorter. This makes working outside very difficult but no less necessary, although we have to admit that some tasks just can’t be done in the dark!

Rain, whilst not an everyday affair, continues.

On the plus side, we have chosen our Christmas Tree (soon to be chopped) and are enjoying the warm open fire in the chilly evenings.
