Dog Wheelchairs
Having a dog that needs a dog wheelchair due to medical condition or injury is heartbreaking. Every day you see them struggle with activities that most dog owners take for granted, and you want to be able to help make their lives easier.
Providing a dog wheelchair may be one of the best things you can do for your disabled dog. They can play again, run again, and live happier, healthier lives. It gives them back their freedom, a gift more precious than anything.
Once your pet is acclimatised to a wheelchair, you will be amazed at how quickly they can adapt, and the difference it will make to their quality of life. Here are just a few examples:
Daisy's Dog Wheelchair
We have personal experience of Walkin' Wheels® wheelchairs, and the positive effect they can have on dogs' lives.
We were devastated when our our GSD, Daisy, was diagnosed with DM (Degenerative Myelopathy, also known as chronic degenerative radiculomyelopathy - CDRM), which is an incurable, progressive condition that affects the spinal cord in dogs.
Daisy started to lose coordination in her hind legs (ataxia), which worsened to the point where she was unable to walk unaided. Her condition was completely painless, and one of the real tragedies was that in every other respect, she was a healthy, happy, 10-year-old GSD. Sadly, we lost her at the end of December, 2019, but until the end she enjoyed twice-daily walks thanks to her dog wheelchair!
The Best Dog Wheelchairs
We made it our mission to find the best dog wheelchairs that would help Daisy, and other disabled dogs, to live the best lives they possibly can. We spent a considerable amount of time and money:
- trying a range of different dog wheelchairs firsthand
- looking at reviews and reading recommendations
- talking to vets, behaviourists, and other dog professionals
- asking about the experiences of other owners with disabled dogs
Walkin’ Wheels® wheelchairs stood out to us as the best for Daisy, and they are consistently listed in the top rankings of dog wheelchairs around the world.
